AAAC MAY 2023 run
SUNDAY 28th MAY 2023 AAA Run to View Z Class Steam Engine Build The South Australian Railways Z class was a class of 4-4-0 steam locomotives operated by the South Australian Railways. This Z Class full sized steam engine is being built in the Adelaide Hills. How it leaves its construction site will be interesting. Located off Iron Bank Road. PLEASE NOTE that parking space is limited for the visit to the new build steam locomotive as there is limited room in the driveway for too many cars. Doubling up people in cars was a suggestion to help crowding. The number of members that indicated they wished to visit the steam loco was 20 at the May meeting. Taking another member would mean less parks needed as half the (10) cars. Located off… |

CHANGES TO RUN DETAILS
CHANGES TO PLANNING OUR CLUB RUNS As we migrate through the constantly changing dynamics of Covid-19 it has become clear that the Club needs to update the way we plan our runs. Both the monthly runs and the weekday runs will now need to have more details presented ahead of the run to the run’s coordinator. A simple change in the weather forecast for the June 2021 Weekday Run demonstrates the need for this. On the day on-which the run was planned to be held the weather forecast was simply abysmal. There was nothing for it but to move the date at very short notice. Easy you say? Not really when there is no record of who was planning to attend. Emails only capture 85% of our members. The end result was to email all members and then for the run co-ordinators to actually att… |

ROCKER COVER RACE RULES
HOW TO BUILD ROCKER COVER WHEELS I was introduced to rocker cover racing by Reg Courteney who borrowed 2 from a friend from the Sporting Car Club. They had plastic wheels with ball clearing centres. At our meeting they were fast but didn't suit our track and bottomed out in the dip, axles were too far back. My grandson and I decided to build our own racers, one with 120mm wheels and the other with 150mm max size. The smaller wheels were cut from an old computer door using a large hole saw mounted in a press drill, the inner bearing hole was cut last. Skateboard bearings were used, at first they were pressed in but the wheels dished so we changed them, leaving them loose and gluing them in with Araldite - not the 5 minute version. The large wheels were cut out of Lexon with a… |
